
| Odissi Dance "An Odissi journey starts with exercises and basic steps in Chouk and Tribhangi. Pada Sadhana: "Sadhana" means practice. Pada Sadhana is the practice of Odissi steps. Steppings in Chowk and Tribhangi are an important part of learning Odissi. By dedication and sincerely practicing these steps unde the guidanceof a teacher, the student purifies the body and strives to attain "Anga Shuddhi" or perfection of form." as written by Vishnu Tattva Das Sessions Include:
Choke practice, History, Eye movements, Strength building, Isolation, Cool Down movements. Nafeesa Lynn has been studying Odissi dance since 2001 with Guru Sri Vishnu Tattva Das in the style of the late Guru Sri Kelucharan Mohapatra. Over the years, she has traveled to India to intensively study Odissi at the Odissi Research Center in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa and at the Smitalay Dance Academy with Guru Jhelum Paranjape in Mumbai. Nafeesa has performed throughout Northern California and is a senior company dancer and teacher for the Odissi Vilas Dance Company based in Marin, California. Through the grace and beauty of Odissi dance, Nafeesa hopes to inspire others to carry on this ancient and sacred classical Indian art form and tradition. |
